Viewing your clips

When you copy content using your clip, the clips will be automatically saved unformatted on AutoBook Clip Preview. Additionally, it removes any duplicate results.

The default interface of Clip Preview shows 9 rows, followed with the Date Added/Date Used time, and the Length of the clip.

Add/Remove Rows

You can add remove rows or add more rows (up to 25 rows) by press CTRL + pg up/pg dn, or F11/F12

To view the full length of a text, press Expand. Press Collapse to return to the default setting.

Turn on Always-on-Top mode

To pin or unpin the Clip Preview so it's always on top of all other windows, press ▲/▼ at the bottom right corner of Clip Preview.

Pasting using your mouse

1. Open Clip Preview, by clicking Show Clips or using Hotkeys CTRL + ⊞ Win + V.

2. Select a row that contains your desire clip and double-click. Your clip will be pasted at your current cursor.

Pasting using your keyboard

AutoBook allows you to paste with numbered shortcuts. Your clip will be pasted at your current cursor.

You can cycling through the clipboard history between Normal Mode and Easy Mode.

  • Open Modes in the Menu Tab, or
  • Pressing CTRL + SHIFT + S.

Normal Mode

The default mode for AutoBook is Normal Mode.

  • To paste row number 1 to 9, press CTRL + (1 - 9)
  • To paste row number 11 to 19, press CTRL + SHIFT + (1 - 9)
  • To paste row number 10, press CTRL + 0
  • To paste row number 20, press CTRL + SHIFT + 0

Easy Mode

For Easy Mode, you don't need to press CTRL.

  • To paste row number 1 to 9, press (1 - 9)
  • To paste row number 11 to 19, press SHIFT + (1 - 9)
  • To paste row number 10, press 0
  • To paste row number 20, press SHIFT + 0

Search Functions

You can search for multiple items from your clipboard history, and you can filter the items to find what you tend to use easily.

Just start typing your search string and AutoBook will enter search mode automatically.

Search within a long clip

You can also search for text within a long clip, using the second search field on the right. Press “Find” to trigger the search. Press “Expand” to increase the size of clipboard window.

You can save your frequently search term for quick access in the “Clip Searches” in the Menu bar.

Create a new Clip Search

  1. Type your search term in the search field
  2. Open File > Save Clip Search
  3. Enter the display name of this search. It can be the same as the search string.
  4. Press Save

Load a clip search

  • Open the Clip Search tab in the Menu bar

Delete/Load/Rename a clip search

  • Open File > Manage Clip Search

Pin Column - Pin Set

You can pin your frequently used items by checking the checkbox from your Clip Preview. Pinning items keeps them on top of the Clip Preview.

You can also create a Pin Set, create a collection of clips under a specific category. This feature helps you keep your clips organized.

Create a new Pin Set

  1. Check the checkbox to add your desired clipboard items to the “Pin Set”.
  2. Open “File” on the Menu Bar, press “Save Pin Set”.
  3. Name your Pin Set. Press Save.

Load your Pin Set

  • Open “Pin Sets” on the Menu Bar, or
  • Open File > Manage Pin Set > Load

Remove items from a Pin Set

  1. Load your Pin Set
  2. Uncheck your unwanted clip(s). Only keep the desired one checked.
  3. Open “File” on the Menu Bar, press “Save Pin Set”.
  4. Select your existing Pin Set. Press Save.

Remove/Rename/Load a Pin Set

  • Open “File” on the Menu Bar, press “Save Pin Set”.

Date Column - Date Added/Date Used

In the Date Added/Date Used column, you will find the time a clip gets copied to AutoBook.

Switch to the Date Used mode to see the last time and the number of time you pasted your clip.

To search for a specific time, use d before your search string, under the format d YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM

Keyword Column - Assign Keywords to your clips

You can label/edit a keyword by holding CTRL and choosing the Keyword field.

You can cycle between All Clips, Clips with Keywords, Clips without Keywords.

To search for Keywords, use k before your search string.

You can cycle between All Clips, Clips used before, Clips never used.

Edit a clip

You can edit your clip by holding CTRL and click on the row, or click “Expand” and edit in the expanded area. You edit will be saved automatically.

Search for a clip starting with a number in Easy Mode

If you are in the Easy Mode and you want to search for a clip starting with a number, type c before the search string. Otherwise your action may be mistaken as pasting a numbered row.

Delete a clip

To delete a clip, select a row and press Delete.

Or, you can open Extra > Delete Selected Clip (CTRL + D)

Reset column filter

To reset your filter to All Keywords and All Clips, press F3 or visit Extra > Reset Column Setting.

Length Column

You can quicky find out the length of your clip in the Length Column.

To search for a specific character length, type l, following with a number.

To search for a clip that has more/less than xx characters, use l >xx or l <xx

Clip Preview Menu Bar

File: Save/Add to/Manage your Pin Sets and Save/Manage your Clip Searches.

  • To inactive Clip Preview, click “Shutdown”
  • To activate Clip Preview, go to Clip Tab, and check the checkbox “Active Clipboard Manager”.

Pin Sets: This is where you load your saved pin sets.

Clip Searches: This is where you load your saved clip searches.

Extra:

  • Copy Selected Clips (F1 or CTRL + C): Choose an existing clip in Clip Preview tab and press F1 / CTRL + C to copy that clip.
  • Bump Selected Clips (F2 or CTRL + B):
  • Delete Selected Clips (F2): Delete all clips that have been added since AutoBook is started, except clips which have been assigned keywords to.
  • Reset Column Settings (F2): Press F2 to restore all the columns to default display: All Keywords and All Clips.
  • Reset GUI Position (F4)
  • Delete Session Clips: Delete all clips that have been added since Auto Book is started, except clips which have been assigned keywords to.
  • Add rows (CTRL + PgUp/F11): You can add up to 25 rows.
  • Remove rows (CTRL + PgDn/F12): The minimum row you can have is 1.

Modes: You can cycle between these mode:

  • Bump Mode (CTRL + SHIFT + B)
    • Bump Pasted Clips to Top: The recently used clips will be bumped to the top when you reload Clip Preview
    • Keep Pasted Clips in Queue: Clips won't move around when you use them, they will stay in the same place
  • Capture Mode (CTRL + SHIFT + C): Same function as the “Clip Mode” in “Clip tab”
    • Capture by Default: All clips will be captured when using the default copy key: CTRL + C
    • Capture with Alternative Hotkey: Clips will only be captured when using the alternative hotkey that you have set in Clip tab:
  • Restoration Mode (CTRL + SHIFT + R)
    • Restore Clipboard after Pasting: The clip you just pasted from AutoBook Clip Preview won't be stored in your clipboard.
    • Keep Pasted Content in Clipboard: The clip you recently pasted from AutoBook Clip Preview will continue to be stored in your clipboard.
  • Selection Mode (CTRL + SHIFT + S)

  • Clipboard Manager: Click Show Clips to open the Clip Preview.
  • Activate the Clipboard Manager. Check the box to activate AutoBook Clipboard Manager.
  • Clip Mode: You can select between “Capture by default” or “Capture only when using Alternative Hotkey for copying”
  • Clip Preview Hotkey: You can use/customize the Clip Preview Hotkeys. Tick the “Win key” box to include the ⊞ Win in your hotkey combination. Remember to press Save.
  • Alternative Hotkey for copying: You can use/customize the your hotkeys. Tick the “Win key” box to include the ⊞ Win in your hotkey combination. Remember to press Save.

Default case-insensitive AND-search covers clip date, keywords, and clip content, in all Date Added, Keywords, Clip and Length column.

1. d | Date Added / Date Used column search

Note: Switch between Date Added / Date Used before searching to make sure you are searching correctly):

  • d yyyy / d yyyy-mm / d yyyy-mm-dd / d yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm (“d 2024 / d 2024-06 / d 2024-06-01 / d 2024-06-01 12:30”)
  • d newer than XX (“d newer than 2024”)
  • d older than XX (“d older than 2024-05”)
  • d from XX to XX (“d from 2024-05-13 to 2024-06-05”)
  • d XX - XX (“d 2024-05-13 - 2024-06-05”)
  • d until XX (“d until 2024-06-05 16:45”)
2. k | Keywords column search
  • You can search for multiple keywords at once.
3. c | Clip column search
  • When you're in Easy mode, remember to put c in your search field (“c 2024”) to avoid accidentally paste your clip in the 2nd row.
4. l | Length column search
  • l X (“l 5”)
  • l <X (“l <5”) / l >X (“l >5”)
  • l <= X (“l ⇐ 5”) / l >= X (“l >= 5”)
  • l X - X (l 100 - 149)
5. x | abbreviation search
  • Use “x” to search for initial letters of phrases or clauses.
  • For example, to search for “please find attached”, use “x pla”.
6. s | case-sensitive search
  • If “s” goes with lowercase only, it only shows lowercase results.
  • If “s” goes with uppercase only, it only shows uppercase results.
7. i | case-insensitive search
  • If “i” goes with lowercase or uppercase only, it shows all results, including lowercase and uppercase.
  • If “i” goes with lowercase or uppercase only, it shows all results, including lowercase and uppercase.

9. Combine searches
  • You can combine searches to generate precise results. For example, to look for an email from May 2024, search for “email d 2024-05”, or “k email d 2024-05”
  • Combine options at will, e.g., “srd” for case-sensitive regex search in the date field.
  • Case sensitivity switches automatically with uppercase letters; override with 'i' or 's'.
  • String search in quotation marks, OR-search with pipes (|), and unique “X Search” for quick retrieval of consecutive words.

Installing AutoBook

AutoBook is a light-weight application with minimal memory/CPU footprint. Installation is not required and all data are saved within the program directory – once you remove AutoBook, no traces of AutoBook will remain on your computer. AutoBook does not send any information from your computer to external servers. It is designed to operate solely within its program directory.

The software can be downloaded from website: $website$

Unzip download autobook.zip in the folder where you want to use it. The package includes several sub-folders for storing Extraction Schemes, Databases, Backups, etc.

Double-click autobook.exe to start the program. The Large User Interface will open.

AutoBook only works for Windows / Linux. We haven't released a Mac OS version yet.

Removing AutoBook from your Computer

In case you have activated the Start with Windows checkbox on the Configuration tab, first deactivate it. This will delete the link in the Windows Startup folder that was created by activating the checkbox.

Then, simply delete the complete AutoBook folder. No traces of AutoBook will remain on your computer.

If you have used AutoBook to capture data, you may want to keep some data within the program directory, such as Databases in the Databases folder, Extraction Schemes in the ES folder, or backups in the Backup folder.
